BorgWarner develops new EGR coolers for CVs
To support commercial vehicle (CV) manufacturers in meeting current and future emissions regulations, BorgWarner has developed an economical new series of multi-platform exhaust gas re-circulation (EGR) coolers featuring a compact floating core. Unlike conventional solutions which must be specifically designed for each application, this new modular cooler family includes four highly adaptable standard designs for maximum flexibility covering a wide range of engine sizes from 2 to 16 litre displacement, according to the company. The new EGR solution offers high robustness against thermal fatigue and enhanced coolant distribution for durable performance even with minimum coolant flow, while reducing NOx emissions. Featuring hybrid tube heat transfer technology and a floating inner core, BorgWarner's EGR coolers are designed to resist high levels of thermal load. In addition, the system provides enhanced coolant distribution, which enables durable performance even with minimum coolant flow. BorgWarner integrated a thermomechanical damper into the design to facilitate complete decoupling of the shell and inner core components to absorb longitudinal and angular differences for improved durability. The damper also provides some initial extra cooling for the inlet gas to reduce thermal shock and allows better gas distribution to the tubes to resist thermal fatigue. In addition, cooling the damper and inlet gas box reduces the overall temperatures achieved, which in turn significantly lowers thermal stress. When the system is operated at an exhaust gas temperature of 1,562? (850?), the inlet gas box temperature is kept below 392? (200?, compared to more than 1,292? (700?) without cooling. The advanced design also minimises the effect of the engine transients over the EGR cooler's durability.

Michelin launches radial tyre range for CVs
Michelin has announced the launch of its 10.00R20 X WORKS HD radial tyres, in India. This range, including X WORKS HD D (drive axle) and X WORKS HD Z (all positions), have been designed specifically for commercial vehicles (CVs) in construction sector, which are required to perform on and off road. This range of tyres will be a lot more rugged and durable, hence adding on to safety. These tyres have been developed for users that mostly use the road, but have to travel to and through off-road locations to get to construction sites to deliver raw material or collect waste material. Construction sector CVs require both high mileage for road use and grip and traction on construction sites, and Michelin aims to provide a combination of the two with the X WORKS range of tyres.

With the new range, Michelin promises increased productivity with a robust tyre construction through high tensile cables that improve strength. The all position X Works HD Z has stone ejectors at the base of the tread grooves to reduce stone trappings. Additional bead wires offer about 25 per cent higher resistance to possible bead rupture. Bead related issues minimised by additional protection around the beads and additional bead wires.

Donaldson Company appoints new Vice President
Donaldson Company Inc announced the appointment of Jacquie Boyer as Vice President of global OEM sales, effective August 28, 2017. Under this campaign, a road show was hosted by Gates team and its authorised distributor India Hydraulics, towards channel engagement and empowerment. The four-day campaign focused on construction equipment industry exploring the locations of Salem, Sankagiri and Erode. The campaign turned out to be a good platform for sharing product offerings and engagement with local authorities and end-customers. Main offerings included wide range of hydraulic and industrial products covering high, medium and low pressure hose assemblies, namely spiral, EFGK range, G1 G2, etc, along with end-fittings, belts and pulleys.

BKT to build carbon black plant
Balkrishna Industries Limited (BKT), a leading global off-highway tyre manufacturer, will build a new plant for the production of carbon black. This facility will stretch over approximately 8 hectare within the BKT production site at Bhuj in Gujarat. A $23-million investment has been earmarked for BKT's backward integration project within their supply chain. The new plant will continuously provide raw material for the increasing tyre production.

The carbon black plant is another step forward in the company's middle-and-long-term strategy, which started with setting up the Bhuj site. Inaugurated in 2015, extending over an area of 120 hectare, and having had a cost of $500 million, Bhuj boasts state-of-the-art production facilities and machinery. It is located in a strategic position in proximity to the commercial port of Mundra, which has already been an important logistic hub for BKT's exports.

ExxonMobil, Primetals Technologies sign pact
ExxonMobil and Primetals Technologies have signed a global lubricants agreement to provide lubricants and enhanced technical services exclusively to the customers of Primetals Technologies. Commercial and passenger three-wheeler, light commercial four-wheeler, diesel pump and mini farm equipment such as tractor and power tiller remains the key revenue generating segments in 5-30 hp diesel engine market. According to the report, the 5-30 hp diesel engine market revenues are projected to grow at a CAGR of 3.9 per cent during FY2018-23. Government initiatives such as Pradhanmantri Krishi Sinchai Yojana, which aims to reduce monsoon dependency and increasing irrigation cover across the nation would rise the demand for farm equipment during the forecast period, thus driving the demand for 5-30 hp diesel engines.
