KHL?s report on top ranking global CE majors indicates tumultuous changes - industry sales fell to US$ 109 billion at the depths of the global financial crisis, and it was also the sharpest year-on-year fall in revenues since those dark days. From China, Shantui went down seven places to No. 38; LiuGong slipped six places to No. 22; while XCMG was the only Chinese manufacturer remaining in the Top Ten. Sany dropped out of the top 10 making way for JCB to join the elite top 10. Although Caterpillar and Komatsu retained 1 and 2 positions respectively, Terex displaced Hitachi for number 3, Liebherr has climbed above Volvo and John Deere, and Doosan occupies the eighth spot.

In the MHE segment, use of battery-operated equipment is of the essence due to environmental reasons with special reference to foods and perishables, pharmaceuticals and others. Earlier, most large capacity and high voltage batteries required for such equipment were imported.
